Follow that bear! Paddington Trail to guide adventurous families around London

Fifty themed Paddington Bears designed by celebrities including Benedict Cumberbatch, Sandra Bullock, David Beckham, Emma Watson and stars of the new Paddington film including Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville and Julie Walters will form a treasure trail around London in November

From November 4 London will play host to some 50 statues of Paddington Bear designed by famous actors, designers and artists. Dotted around the capital’s most famous landmarks, the bears will form The Paddington Trail, which stretches from Heathrow Airport in west London to the O2 stadium in the east. The trail has been devised by VisitLondon.com, the NSPCC and Studiocanal in advance of the release of the part-animated, part-live action Paddington Bear film, which opens in cinemas on November 28.

Among the actors who have designed a bear are stars of the Paddington movie, including Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Julie Walters, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw, the last of whom provides the voice of Peru’s most famous export. Other celebrities who have turned their hand to reimagining the iconic marmelade-loving bear are Sandra Bullock, Benedict Cumberbatch, Emma Watson, Guy Ritchie, Zaha Hadid, Rankin, Lulu Guinness, Darcey Bussell, David Beckham, Bear Grylls, Ant & Dec, Jonathan Ross, Boris Johnson and the Chelsea football team.

The first of the designs were revealed today: “Paddington Bear” by the bear’s creator, Michael Bond; “Paddington Shakesbear” by actor Michael Sheen; “Paddington Sparkles” by singer-songwriter Frankie Bridge; and “Paddingtonscape” by artist Hannah Warren.

The Paddington Trail is launched on November 4. Paddington is released on November 28
